SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Dr. Kareem Osman says he wants to change the patient experience of going to the dentist and he has gone to great lengths to make sure that is the case at Scotch Plains-Fanwood Dental Care, which opened last week at 44 So. Martine Ave. in Fanwood.

Dr. Osman says that patient comfort is always a top priority, and he spent years logging patient concerns and writing down suggestions in his effort to create a new paradigm of dentistry. He and his partners have spent close to a million dollars on state-of-the-art equipment and amenities including top-of-the-line massage chairs to help relax anxious patients before they even begin their exams. Every treatment room has TVs on the ceiling and noise-reducing Bose headphones so patients can relax and not focus on the site and sounds of the dentist office that many people fear.

"Contrary to popular belief, you no longer have to dread visiting the dentist’s office,"  said Dr. Kareem Osman, a 2008 graduate of Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School and later of NYU School of Dentistry. "We work hard each and every day to provide a truly exceptional patient experience that prioritizes comfort, modern technology, and personalized, lasting smile improvements that lead to a higher quality of life."

Since be began practicing at several different dental offices since graduating from dentistry school, Dr. Osman has made it a point to focus on patient experience. At each place where he has worked, he has asked questions of his patients about what made them nervous about visiting a dentist's office and ways that the experience could be improved. Dr. Osman has taken this knowledge and incorporated it into his plans to build Scotch Plains-Fanwood Dental Care.

Contrary to popular belief, you no longer have to dread visiting the dentist’s office. The office will house a hygenists, dentists, an orthodontist, and an oral surgeon all under one roof.

"You don't have to run to different offices. Everything is housed here, and X-rays and other oral history can be shared here easily among the doctors," Dr. Osman said. "For us, it is all about improving the patient experience."

Despite the high end technology and spa-like feel of the dentistry office, Dr. Osman believes he has priced his services affordably so that anyone will be able to use his services.

"Dentistry is all about preventative care. I don't want you to come in here and have a root canal. My goal is to provide regular, quality ongoing care. If that happens, and you keep coming back every six months, we will be doing our job and in the long run will make money because our patients are constantly receiving quality care."

Scotch Plains-Fanwood Dental Care accepts many insurance plans, including: Aetna, Ameritas, Cigna, Concordia, Delta Dental, MetLife, United Healthcare, and others. Dr. Osman is also willing to work out arrangements with people who do not currently have dental insurance because he believes everyone should be able to have basic dental care.

"Here, you’ll find everything you need under one roof provided by a team that will feel like a group of friends starting at your very first appointment," Dr. Osman says. "We can’t wait to change how you think about going to the dentist!"
