SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School senior Marc Rosario recently finished in first place for a poster he created at the Repertorio Espanol Theatre Contest held on June 5th 2013 at the Gramercy Arts Theater on East 27th Street in Manhattan, New York.

Rosario's poster is themed to "In the Time of the Butterflies", a historical novel that he read with his Spanish class by Julia Alvarez. By reading the novel and discussing it with other students in his class, Rosario's poster represents what he studied about the Mirabal sisters and their fight for freedom in the Dominican Republic.

At Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, Rosario has a passion for photography and graphic design. He began to use graphic design and photography at an exchange program for the Spanish club at the high school.

"I learned it by myself", Rosario said. "Reading "In the Time of the Butterflies" and using Photoshop to create my poster gave me every reason to portray what I felt was meaningful".

Rosario also finished in first place in other poster contests at Scotch Plains High School. He did so by creating the logos for the Barcelona Exchange program, the World Language Department, and the Anti-Bullying Contest.

"Rosario is leaving a legacy in our department and our program" said Daniela Davidson, Rosario's Spanish teacher. "He's perseverant and I am sure that he looks forward to all the opportunities that await him in his future".

After he graduates from Scotch Plains High School on June 20th, Marc Rosario will continue to study graphic design at Kean University starting this fall.
