SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Scotch Plains-Fanwood middle school students will have the opportunity to participate in an exploratory Mandarin Chinese program to interested students in grades 6 - 8. This program is intended for students who have no previous experience in learning Mandarin.
The district will run one section at each middle school, two days a week after school from 2:50 - 3:30 p.m. Mandarin will be offered twice during the school year. The first session will begin in January, and a second session will run later in the year for students who were not able to participate in the first session.
SESSION 1: January - Mid March
Park Middle School: Mondays and Tuesdays
Terrill Middle School: Wednesdays and Thursdays
SESSION 2: (A repeat of Session 1): Mid March - beginning of June
Terrill Middle School: Mondays and Tuesdays
Park Middle School: Wednesdays and Thursdays
Enrollment is limited to 30 students at each school. If more than 30 students apply, priority will be given to students by grade level, with 8th graders selected first, followed by 7th graders, and then 6th graders. Next, students will be selected on a lottery basis. Students not selected to participate during the first session may apply for the second session.
