SCOTCH PLAINS,NJ -- While the weekend of October 24 and 25 proved to be unkind to the Scotch Plains Fanwood PAL Raider football teams, the spectators were quite generous and giving.

On Sunday, October 25 at Scotch Plains Fanwood High School’s Tyson Field, the site of the PAL Raider football games on that day, fans were asked to bring canned and boxed food and products to provide the food pantry at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (IHM) in Scotch Plains. Additionally, Black Drop Coffee provided coffee for spectators..

Glenn Vaughn, a member of the SPF PAL Board of Trustees, spearheaded the collection at the field.

Vaughn was quite pleased over the amount of donations and cited the Dupuis family for their very generous donations as well as the visiting Bridgewater cheer teams. Andy Dupuis is a coach on the Raiders C team and his son Cooper is a member of that sixth grade SPF squad. Vaughn presented praise to both Colleen and Kit Dupuis

Since many spectators asked if they could bring donations to the next game since they did not contribute this past Sunday, the PAL will sponsor a second donation drive this Sunday, November 1, at the SPF High School’s Tyson Field during the PAL Raider games. The food pantry at St. Bart’s Church in Scotch Plains will be the recipient of this coming Sunday’s effort.

Meanwhile, on the football field, Bridgewater defeated the Raiders' A, B and C teams on October 25 while the E and third grade Raider squads fell to Bridgewater on October 24 on the road. The Raider D team was defeated on October 25 on its home turf by Berkeley Heights. The defeats by the Raider B and C teams were the first suffered by each squad since last year.
