SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Scotch Plains-Fanwood PAL today launched its "Cops & Kids" Intramural Program for 5th to 8th graders. Scotch Plains Mayor Al Smith was also in attendance while raising awareness for the Mayors Wellness Campaign.

"We’ve undertaken this program to get kids off their video games and participate in some lightly competitive programs with their friends," said Scotch Plains Police Chief Ted Conley.

“Our kids go to a shared school district, and we want our officers involved in the schools as part of their daily routine. Fanwood officers and Scotch Plains officers walk the halls, talk to the kids and are visible,” said Fanwood Chief Richard Trigo.

“People seem to like it, and the officers enjoy interacting with the kids. When police officers get the chance to participate in the schools, it’s a plus for everyone,” Trigo added.
