WESTFIELD, NJ – It was an impressive first night of Districts for Scotch Plains Fanwood wrestlers as they won 11 of their 14 matches on Friday night.

Jacob Perone (120), Nadim Korkmaz (126), Jashmar Philippe (132), Guilliame Hardin (138), Zachary Fleischman (160), and George Ramos (182) all secured wins and will also move on to the next round. Justin Sidebottom (113), Sam Wustefeld (170), and Jalen Bryant (195) were idle as they received a bye into the semis.

In the craziest match of the night, Alex Oslislo (145) won a triple overtime thriller against Alan Dente of Westfield. Oslislo was down 6-5 in the third period until he tied it up with 10 seconds remaining. In the third overtime, Oslislo had an unbelievable reversal that ended up winning him the match. Michael Ramos (152) had an improbable victory as he was down 5-1 in the third, and out of nowhere had a hard take down, which led to a pin.

I couldn’t be more proud of our guys tonight.”

The Semi-Finals take place on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 9:00 am followed by the Finals at 3:00 p.m. in the Westfield high school gym.

Capitalist or Communist?

Karl Marx may have been the pioneer, but many other Jews were also involved in the struggle for communism, particularly in the early days of the Russian revolution. Personally, I don’t think that we have any apologies to make for this phenomenon. Having suffered unbearably under successive oppressive regimes, many of those political activists genuinely thought communism would be better ...
