SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Scotch Plains-Fanwood boys varsity swim team continued its winning ways by defeating Chatham, 91-79, in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Public B, Semifinal on Tuesday at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY). 

Upperclassmen led the way for the Raiders with seniors Nick Heath winning the 50 and 100 Freestyle and Tyler Daniskas taking the 100 Backstroke, while juniors Josh Cohen won the 200 and 500 Freestyle and Alan Shao finishing first in the 100 Butterfly.

The boys came out strong with a big win in the 200 Medley Relay against Chatham, which beat Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 87-83, on December 13. While

"The boys really stepped up today. They came out for the medley relay and set a nice tone," said Raiders head coach Jess Hulnik after the meet. "We had a couple of touches that were close and we were able to rack up some points. We really did well today."

The boys continue in their attempt to return to the state finals when they swim in the Sectional Finals on Friday against Summit at Raritan Bay YMCA. Meanwhile, the girls, who defeated Summit on Monday, will face off against Chatham on Thursday in their Sectional Final, also at Raritan Bay.

  • 100 FREESTYLE: Nick Heath, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 52.25
  • 500 FREESTYLE: Josh Cohen, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 4:37.94
  • 200 FREESTYLE RELAY: Shao-Donaldson-Heath-Cohen, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 1:33.68
  • 100 BACKSTROKE: Tyler Daniskas, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 59.34
  • 100 BREASTSTROKE: Ethan Ding, Chatham 1:04.79
  • 400 FREESTYLE RELAY: Cava-Ding-Barrett-Covino, Chatham 3:38.10
