Scotch Plains-Fanwood Students to Get Leadership Training

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ - Middle-school students in the district will be getting leadership training next weekend under a special program now in its fifth year.

The Educational Enrichment Foundation of Scotch Plains-Fanwood and the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District will co-sponsor a leadership training conference for middle school students on Feb. 15. This year, SPF Leadership Training Conference (LTC) 100 will train more than 130 new student leaders.

The SPF LTC 100 takes selected features from the New Jersey Association of Student Council's four-day Leadership Training Conference (LTC) held in the summer and condenses them into a single day.

Under the leadership of Phyllis Mirabella  (EEF of SPF), the program will train 133 delegates. After this year, the SPF LTC 100 program will have trained more than 580 students to become leaders in their schools and communities. The program is possible due to the efforts of more than 70 volunteers, including junior and senior counselors.

Wakefern Corporation of Elizabeth, ShopRite of Garwood and Nick's Pizza and Deli in Fanwood have provided donations for the event, which will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the high school.

The Junior Counselors coordinate welcoming activities and icebreakers, so that each delegate gets to better know fellow group members before the following leadership sessions begin:

·    Speaking With Ease:  What makes a good speaker?  Gain awareness of important principles of effective Public Speaking.

·    Effective Communication:  Do people listen when you speak?  Do you really listen to other people?  There is a difference between “hearing” and “listening”. Find out how good a listener you really are.

·    Elected to Lead Everyone: Do you really know who your fellow students are, and how does this affect what you think about them and what they think about you? You'll have fun as you find out what "headbands" you would like to wear.

·    T.E.A.M. Time: “Together Everyone Achieves More”.  What qualities make an effective leader?  How do               different types of leaders affect group performance? Team Time shows the difference between                                   transactional and transformational leadership.

Sinai or Sanctuary?

And in the beginning, G‑d was homeless, and so G‑d asked His people to set Him up with some digs. Where does it say that? Well, nowhere, actually. But it does say that G‑d instructed Moses to tell the people, “They shall make for Me a Sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”

Now the question is, was G‑d really homeless? ...
