Scotch Plains-Fanwood Wrestling Topples New Providence 51-23

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – The Scotch Plains Fanwood Raiders wrestling team powered its way to a 51-23 victory over New Providence on Wednesday, picking up decisive wins by way of pinfall.

After finishing 26-3 in 2015, Tyler Gazaway (NP) picked up his fifth straight win on Wednesday. Bouncing between 152 and 145 pounds, the senior is undefeated in his quest for another shot at the State Championship.

Despite starting slow, the Raiders mounted a significant comeback after sophomore Sam Wustefeld and senior George Ramos reeled in back-to-back pins at the 182 and 195 weight classes. The undefeated Wustefeld picked up his tenth consecutive win.

Following a series of forfeitures, the Pioneers remained steadfast with wins from John Palmer and Owen Smith. However, Jashmar Philippe and Guilliame Hardin sealed the victory for Scotch Plains-Fanwood by ending the night with successive pins.
