SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – Scotch Plains Manager Al Mirabella announced the hiring of DJ Salvante as the township’s new Director of Recreation at Tuesday evening’s Township Council meeting.
Salvante is the former Superintendent of Recreation for Union Township, a position he held from August 2015 until recently. His duties included planning, promoting, organizing and administering recreational services for the community in Union.
"DJ comes highly regarded; Union's loss is our gain. I want to thank Mike Walsh, Alfonse Akins, and the Recreation Commission for their valuable input into the process," said Al Mirabella, who as township manager, hires employees. (However, in Scotch Plains, the Recreation Commissioner reports directly to the independent Recreation Commission.)
Salvante established procedures to provide services at a reasonable costs, studied community recreation needs to develop immediate and long-range plans to meet those needs as Union's Superintendent of Recreation, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Prior to serving in Union Township, Salvante was Director of Operations for the Essex County Department of Parks, a position he held for nearly four years. He also was Facility Manager at the Turtle Back Zoo in West Orange. He holds a B.S. in Sport Management and Marketing from Seton Hall University’s W. Paul Stillman School of Business.
