SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Scotch Plains Public Library invites children, teens, and adults to participate in their annual summer reading program. This year’s theme, Libraries Rock, will allow the community to explore, discover, participate in, and contribute to a variety of programs. Residents of Scotch Plains and Fanwood can sign up online and in-person.

The season’s programs will kick off with an all-day celebration at the library on Saturday, June 23. For children, there will be an Alice in Wonderland Themed Un-Birthday Party from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Upon entering, your child will receive a card with challenges. After completing the challenges, your child will earn a prize. There will be a professional green screen photographer during the event.

At 10:00 a.m., there will be a visit from the 501st Legion Star Wars Stormtroopers from the Northeast Remnant. At 11:00 a.m., there will be a Dance Party with DJL Show. Online registration is required and includes admittance to all events between 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Your ticket will guarantee a small party favor for your child, who must be present to receive it.

At 1:00 pm, there will be a Harry Potter Celebration for kids ages 8 and up. The YMCA will be promoting their 7th Grade Membership Initiative which includes a free membership for children entering the 7th grade. For adults, there will be a Fueling for Running program at 2:00 p.m. where participants will learn some great ways to fuel their exercise and sports activities with healthy food. The event is timed perfectly for those who are planning to run the Scotch Plains Downtown Race to Summer on June 27. Online registration is required.
