SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - With yet another in the seemingly perpetual chain of snowstorms expected to roll into the area late Wednesday night, Scotch Plains seems equipped to handle the next accumulation.

Although many municipalities in the area have seen their supply of road salt deeply depleted by the abundance of snow events over the last two months, Scotch Plains appears to be in good shape.

"I had asked the township manager (Jerry Giaimis) at our conference meeting on the 4th if we had adequate salt on hand, and he responded that we do," Scotch Plains Mayor Kevin Glover said on Tuesday.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Union County from late Wednesday night through late Thursday night for 4 to 8 inches of snow and winds that could gust up to 35 mph.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood district schools have already used up more than their allotted amount of snow emergency days, and have scheduled one of the days initially slated to be part of spring vacation in April as a makeup day. Another snow day on Thursday, which seems quite possible, would result in the district needing to make up another day during that April break.

Sinai or Sanctuary?

And in the beginning, G‑d was homeless, and so G‑d asked His people to set Him up with some digs. Where does it say that? Well, nowhere, actually. But it does say that G‑d instructed Moses to tell the people, “They shall make for Me a Sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”

Now the question is, was G‑d really homeless? ...

February 20, 2018

Dear Editor:

As a 26-year-old Scotch Plains resident who cares more about the well-being of our town than about local politics, I am extremely disappointed that the Scotch Plains Democratic Committee leadership has decided to abandon Colleen Mahr in her run for Chair of the Union County Democratic Committee.

Mahr, who as Mayor of Fanwood for 15 years has worked closely with Scotch Plains ...
