SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Jenna Alexis Smith and Jayson Anthony Williams-Johnson (escort), both of Scotch Plains, will participate in the 2019 Essex County Emerald and Ivory Cotillion.
Jenna Smith was among 20 girls selected from seven of New Jersey counties to participate in the prestigious 2019 Debutante Leadership Program. This notable program has been offered every other year for the past 27 years, by invitation only, to outstanding high school junior and senior girls in New Jersey who have demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to community service. Debutantes participate in educational, cultural, social and community service activities, and weeks of dance rehearsals with their escorts and fathers.
Jenna Smith, who attends Kent Place School, was also one of 30 girls selected into the preeminent HerLead Fellowship Program which selects promising young female leaders from the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico. She is also very active in her community attending the Elefante school of music, participates in the American Legion oratorical competitions, and is an active member of the Greater Union County Chapter of Jack and Jill, which provides educational and community service events throughout union county.
Jayson Williams attends the Peddie School, where he is on the varsity basketball team and volunteers on many community service projects throughout the state. He will accompany Jenna as her escort and is also a member of the Greater Union County of Jack and Jill.
The 2019 Debutante Leadership Program began in February and will culminate this Sunday, Dec. 8, in a formal cotillion. The illustrious 14th Biennial Emerald and Ivory Debutante Cotillion will be held from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Hanover Marriott Hotel, 1401 Route 10 East, Whippany.
