SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — The Scotch Plains Zoning Board of Adjustment will hold a special session on Thursday, Sept. 22, at which it will consider Ashbrook Nursing & Rehabilitation Center's application to expand. The facility is located at 1610 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains.
Ashbrook wants to build a 14,000 sq. ft., five-story building that would accommodate 90 beds and be located near the back of the property. The rehab facility previously requested a new three-story, 15,000 sq. ft., assisted-living residence with 60 beds.
Local residents attended previous meeting during the summer to oppose the proposed expansion. Among their concerns: increased traffic and an influx of new residents in the area.
The Scotch Plains Zoning Board of Adjustment conducts public hearings to decide on applications for variances, appeals of the Zoning Officer's decisions, and interpretations of the Zoning Code. The Board is made up of seven regular and two alternate members, all of whom are appointed by the Township Council and serve four-year terms without compensation:
- Anthony Gialanella, Chair
- Ken Anderson, Vice Chair
- Anthony Flagg
- Guy Checchio
- Richard S. Fortunato
- Daniel Sullivan
- Chris Thompson
- Edward Minall, Alternate #1
- Frank DeLuca, Alternate #2
Vincent K. Loughlin, Esq., is the Zoning Board Attorney.
