SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Scotch Plains Public Library has announced its September Book Clubs.

On Monday, Sept. 11 at 7:00 p.m., the Evening Book Club will be meeting to discuss Miss Jane by Brad Watson. Watson explores the life of Miss Jane Chisolm, born in rural, early-twentieth-century Mississippi with a birth defect that would stand in the way of the central “uses” for a woman in that time and place.  Miss Jane was longlisted for the National Book Award for Fiction.

On Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 1:00 p.m., the Afternoon Book Club will be meeting to discuss The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson. Fans of Simonson’s Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand have reason to rejoice. She has created another engaging novel full of winsome characters, this time set during the summer before the outbreak of World War I. Follow the story of headstrong, independent Beatrice Nash and kind but stuffy surgeon-in-training Hugh Grange along with his formidable Aunt Agatha.

Scotlib’s book clubs are free and open to interested members of the public. For more information, go to www.scotlib.org, email library@scotlib.org, call (908) 322-5007 x 204 or stop by the Reference Desk. The Scotch Plains Library is located at 1927 Bartle Ave., one block from Park Ave. in the center of town.

Sinai or Sanctuary?

And in the beginning, G‑d was homeless, and so G‑d asked His people to set Him up with some digs. Where does it say that? Well, nowhere, actually. But it does say that G‑d instructed Moses to tell the people, “They shall make for Me a Sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.”

Now the question is, was G‑d really homeless? ...

The Definition of Insanity

February 21, 2018

There is a quote, attributed to various people, including Albert Einstein that states, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result”, that is fitting for our current election for Union County Democratic Committee (UCDC) chair.

There is no shortage of polling data related to the functioning of our Federal, ...
