SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The fourth annual Shane Sheppard Softball Tournament, which benefits two treatment centers, will be played on Sunday, April 22, at Jerseyland Park in Scotch Plains.

The event attracts many former athletes and friends of Shane. and his parents and his sister.
Steve Sheppard, the father who coordinates the event with his wife and daughter, reports that the proceeds of the event will go to Mendham-based Daytop Village, a residential substance abuse treatment for youth and young adults, and the Fern House, which provides male alcoholics and drug addicts with a supportive, safe, drug and alcohol-free residence in which they can develop the life skills in Palm Beach, Fla.
Proceeds are obtained during the game through numerous raffles. Local organizations, including the Scotch Plains Fanwood PAL, also provide donations to the cause.
