SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – Shrek Jr, presented by S.T.A.R.S. Theatre, ended its impressive three-day run on Sunday at the Alan Augustine Village Green on Park Avenue in downtown Scotch Plains.

The musical, presented by a summer stock group of children ages K-8, is based on the 2001 Oscar-winning DreamWorks film about an ogre whose swamp is invaded by banished fairy tale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions.

Among the standouts were: Johnny Veglia as Shrek; Megan Sheehy as Adult Fiona; Robbie Dobies as Donkey and Mac Ferrone as Lord Farquaad. To see the full cast list, click here.

S.T.A.R.S. Theatre is a local children’s performing arts group sponsored by the Township of Scotch Plains Recreation Department. It was started nine years ago by two SPFHS juniors, and participation has continued to grow to more than 90 children each summer under the direction of Gailmarie Sprague.

Capitalist or Communist?

Karl Marx may have been the pioneer, but many other Jews were also involved in the struggle for communism, particularly in the early days of the Russian revolution.
