SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Behind a complete game by pitcher Erica Lee and near flawless fielding behind her, the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Cobras won the 14U Parkway League Championship on Tuesday evening by defeating Long Hill at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School.

The hustling Cobras were aggressive on the base paths and took advantage of several fielding errors by Long Hill, which had defeated the Cobras handily earlier this summer. The visitors jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning before the Cobras scored in the bottom of the frame. Scotch Plains-Fanwood tacked on five more runs in the second inning, two in the third, two in the fourth, and four more in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

"Long Hill ten-runned us earlier in the season, but we are a different team now," said Coach Mike Bernardo.

"The team began the summer with a 1-3 record, and dramatically improved by going 8-1 for the remainder of the summer season, ending with a 9-4 record and a championship," said Coach Joe Brunetto.
