UNION, NJ - The undefeated Scotch Plains-Fanwood (SPFHS) girls soccer team defeated Union Sunday night in double overtime at Kean University to win the Union County Tournament.
Under cold conditions in a physical game, SPFHS and Union battled to a scoreless tie. With under three minutes before the end of the second overtime period, Tori Baliatico raced down the sideline and passed to Alyssa DiFrancesco, who put the ball in the net. The celebration ensued as players raced across the field to celebrate with DiFrancesco after her goal.
Next up: The girls now move on to the state tournament. Top-seeded SPFHS will play 16th-seeded Edison on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. at SPFHS.
