SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- A committee has formed and started a petition in an attempt to overturn the ordinance passed by the Scotch Plains Township Council on Tuesday that abolishes the Scotch Plains Recreation Commission. Organizers say that if enough signatures are collected, the petitioners could force the issue to a referendum so the voters can decide the outcome.
In order to sign the petition, one must be a resident and a registered voter of Scotch Plains. Signings will take place at Booth Field (corner of Westfield Rd and Valley Rd) upstairs in the main building. Dates and times: Monday through Friday (starting on March 20) from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturdays (March 21, 28 and April 4) from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
"Now is the time to come off the sidelines. We must act quickly," said Neil Kaufman, president of the Scotch Plains Fanwood Baseball League. "Along with the other sports organizations, I invite the voters of Scotch Plains to make your voices heard. Sign the petition and save the non-partisan Scotch Plains Recreation Commission."
