SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- St. Bart's hosted a 9/11 Memorial in which 3,000 luminaries -- one for each person lost -- were lit following 5:00 p.m. mass at the church in Scotch Plains on Saturday evening.

"We wanted to come up with a memorial event in which the whole community could participate," said Elaine Coupe, Director Community Outreach for St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church, who helped organize the event and typed the names that were affixed to a label placed on each luminary.

Earlier in the evening, members of the Scotch Plains police, fire and EMS departments paid their respects to their fallen comrades on 9/11.
