SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – A Union County SWAT team was called to “The Reserve” townhouse complex off Route 22 after earlier reports of a bank robbery at the TD Bank at the corner of Park Ave. and Mountain Ave. on Sunday afternoon.

A resident in the complex who requested anonymity reported the team entered a unit in the 300 block of Donato Circle at approximately 4:25 p.m. after a heavily armed police presence for more than an hour. Of the police presence, she said, "These guys aren't messin' around; big guns."

According published reports, Scotch Plains police requested mutual aid units mobilize to the Donato Circle location in connection to a bank robbery at 245 Park Avenue, the address of the TD Bank.  The reports also indicated the suspect matched the description of the suspect in a robbery of a TD bank that occurred in Bridgewater earlier on Sunday.

Amy Schetelich of Scotch Plains was in the drive-through of the TD Bank at approximately 2:35 p.m. and saw a man run across the drive-through lane in front of her car.

“I saw him running from the bank toward Route 22,” Schetelich said. “Two police cars were in front of the bank. I saw one officer leave his car. Then both policemen were running after him on foot. The one police officer I think left his car running. The cars were right in front of the bank.”

Although Schetelich asked the teller if there had been a robbery, she said the teller did not respond.
