GREENSBORO, NC - Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA’s Josh Cohen competed in five events at the USA Nationals in the 50-meter long-course pool in Greensboro, NC, from Nov. 27 to Dec. 3, 2018.

Olympians -- including gold medalists Katie Ledecky and Nathan Adrian -- competed at the event, which also included members from the national teams of Canada and New Zealand. Cohen, a high school senior who swims for Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, was among the youngest competitors, most of whom are college age or above.

In his first race of the meet, Cohen finished 16th in the 800 Free with a time of 8:27.11. (The Men’s 800 Free will become an Olympic event for the first time at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.) In the 400 Free, Cohen qualified for the C-Final with the 21st best time of 4:03.58.

"It was a great event and a taste of what college swimming will be like," said Cohen, who will attend Georgia Institute of Technology next fall.

Cohen earned four points for the FSPY team during the week-long USA Swimming Winter Nationals, which started Nov. 27.
