SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ – At the last practice of the Raider’s “dream season,” both the Scotch Plains Fanwood High School boys and girls teams reflected on their careers at the Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) before the State Finals this weekend.

The girls swimming team enters the State Final undefeated, with a phenomenal 15-0 record. The Raiders look to secure their first title since 2006.

"Our team has been building, and this is the best culmination you could ask for," said senior co-captain Francesca Arvizzigno. "I've never been more excited for a swim meet."

"It's really exciting. This is the farthest we’ve ever gone," said senior co-captain Maddie Ryan. "It's very emotional because this team is very close."

“This team has been part of my life for so long. It's great to go out with a bang," added senior co-captain Morgan Bransky. "I'm so proud of this team."

The boys team finished with an impressive 13-2 record, falling only to No. 6 Pingry and their rivals No. 2 Westfield.  Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s only state title came in 2011.

"Just being able to wrap it up and make it this far really cool,” said senior Alex Skoog.

"It's very exciting because as freshmen, we made it and came up just short," said JB Walling. "It's nice as a senior to get another chance."

“This is special,” said Coach Jess Hulnik. “Making the championship is always a goal, but to have both teams make it is a dream season.”

Hulnik gave credit to her swimmers’ intensity, saying, “They take care of themselves. They do all the hard work. I just get to show up.”

The boys face No. 1 Moorestown in the Public B Final on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 4:00 p.m. The girls take on No. 2 Princeton in the Public B Final on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 4:00 p.m. Both meets take place at The College of New Jersey.
