Swimming: Union Catholic Sinks Dayton in Season Opener

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Union Catholic co-ed swim team opened its season with an impressive win over Dayton as the Vikings won all but two of the events on the way to a 120-50 victory on Thursday at the Jewish Community Center in Scotch Plains.

Junior Kate Fuhrmann, the Union County 50-meter freestyle champion last year, turned in a sensational performance for UC by winning the 100 freestyle in 56.44 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.19 and swimming on the victorious 200 medley relay (1:59.98) and the winning 400 freestyle relay (1:13.26)

Hunter Lee and Miranda Mouris each won a race and swam on two winnings relays for UC, and James Scacifero also had a big day for the Vikings, winning the 200 freestyle in 2:13.97 and swimming on the winning 400 free relay.
