WESTFIELD, NJ — Tamaques Park is closed until further notice, Westfield Police announced Saturday afternoon.

The Department of Public Works had been performing storm-related tree work there, police said.

“For safety reasons, Tamaques Park closed until further notice. DPW needs to assess condition of trees,” the police department said in a Nixle alert at 5:46 p.m.

Tropical Storm Isaias wreaked havoc Tuesday, knocking out power for over 3,500 customers in Westfield that day and taking down trees and branches throughout the municipality, blocking numerous roadways.

Earlier this week, a showing by the town of the movie “Raiders of the Lost Ark” that had been planned in Tamaques Park Thursday, Aug. 6, was postponed until Sept. 3.
