SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ – Are you a college student looking for an internship experience with an online news organization?

If you study journalism or another writing major and are interested in learning about community news or high school sports, check out TAPinto.net. We are currently in the process of interviewing and hiring interns for the fall 2015 and summer 2016 semesters. Our interns work hand-in-hand with our full-time editorial staff, covering news, events, sports and other local stories for our all-online newspaper.

"Real world experience and training are critically important for students who will soon enter the real world,” TAPinto.net’s founder Mike Shapiro said. “At TAPinto.net, we are excited to be able to provide these skills to our students, which help them to succeed in the very competitive world of the journalism job market.”

Student-interns will gain valuable experience in the world of community news at TAPinto.net. Our two positions, news and sports, put occupants right into the field where they will gain first-hand knowledge on the ins-and-outs of online newspaper business. These internships are as hands-on as you can get, where no two days are alike. Our news interns will trail their editor/supervisor as they cover their assigned town’s government meetings and events. They may get to write a feature story on a high-ranking official.

For our sports interns, they will work hand-in-hand with the editor in covering the local high school athletic scene and youth sports, as well. Interns will begin the semester covering varsity games while forging relationships with the coaching staffs. As the semester continues, they will add sports-based feature stories into their story rotation.

“Our internship program is second to none,” TAPinto.net internship director Tim LeCras said. “It has been designed to give our interns the most hands-on experience available. As a company, we will do our best to give our students a large portfolio for their future job search.”

TAPinto.net’s internships are all unpaid and students must receive academic credit. During the semester, interns must complete a minimum amount of hours per week that correlates with the requirements of their college or university. To be considered, interns must have completed their freshman year (or equivalent academic standing) with basic journalistic-style writing experience.

Any student interested in applying for one of TAPinto.net’s internship opportunities should reach out to internship director Tim LeCras via email at tlecras@tapinto.net

What Is Your Bottom Line?

This week's Parshah (Torah reading) is the Parshah of Pinchas the Zealot: the courageous young priest who stood up against idolatry and immorality and, in the end, saved Israel from a devastating plague.

While Pinchas' radical response made him a hero worthy of having a Torah section named after him, we wouldn't necessarily suggest to our children ...
