SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Terrill Middle School (TMS) Players will present a production of Little Women on Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21 both at 7:00 p.m.
TMS Players was founded in 2013 by Kale Thompson, a vocal music teacher at Terrill Middle School. The 2015/2016 season includes the second fall 8th grade play, Little Women and the third musical, Beauty and the Beast which will take place this spring. The show is under the direction of Kale Thompson along with Amanda Salcedo, a fifth grade teacher in the school.
Little Women was originally set during the Civil War at a time a when it was commonplace for families to have a parent at war. The story focuses on friendship, love, death in the family, and on a young woman not wanting to conform to social norms. This inspired the TMS players to set the entire show with a modern edge as they felt that these are all common issues that families have to contend with, proving that this timeless classic is till extremely relevant in today's society.
"Working with the 8th grade students has been a pleasure. In the small setting, their talents are really coming through and shining. The natural instinct and talent of the actors is tremendous," said Mr. Thompson. "I am proud of how they have brought a 19th Century story to life in 2015."
Mrs. Salcedo added that "being a part of Little Women offered a different level of appreciation for the blossoming theater program at TMS. The students were eager to learn, and offer input into both their roles and the overall mechanics of the show. The cast has an amazing group of students, and their dedication to their roles really is evident throughout the performance."
