Dear Editor:

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains Rotary and the Scotch Plains-Fanwood UNICO clubs are happy to announce their co-sponsorship of “The Big Toy Drive” this holiday season! Donations are being accepted now until Dec. 17, and all donations and proceeds benefit Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation in Mountainside. New, unwrapped toys can be donated at the following participating businesses:

  • Darby Road
  • Nunzio’s
  • Fanwood Bagel
  • Grillestone
  • Bella Bronze
  • Theatrical Artists Prep
  • Sheelen’s Crossing

I want to personally thank all of the participating businesses, both old and new locations, for allowing your establishments to be drop locations. Without your participation, this toy drive would not be a success. I also want to thank our sponsors, Minuteman Press, for donating the prints, and Servpro for helping with the collection and delivery at the end of the drive. And another big thank you to Incentives USA for creating a great logo and poster design year after year!

Children’s Specialized Hospital Foundation is the nation’s leading provider of inpatient and outpatient care for children from birth to 21 years of age facing special health challenges - from chronic illnesses and complex physical disabilities like brain and spinal cord injuries to developmental and behavioral issues like autism and mental health.

Children’s Specialized Hospital inspired me when I was a patient of theirs as a child. In 2006, when I had spinal fusion corrective surgery for my scoliosis, I flat-lined on the operating table. Fortunately I was brought back, and began my healing process. During my time in the hospital, I realized that there are children who spend their holidays there, and that inspired me to start this toy drive. We’ve now been going strong for over 10 years, and I am thrilled that The Big Toy Drive is able to return again thanks to our amazing communities, which are beyond supportive, and which help it expand and become more successful every year.

Thank you for your support!
