SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ -- Many situations and difficulties cause adolescent girls distress and keep them from living comfortable and happy lives. The Girls’ View is an adolescent round-table discussion group where girls in Grades 9 -- 12 may talk about anything going on in their life -- including issues that impact health and wellness.

Topics will be driven by the participants themselves and will be moderated by Debra Ferro, MA, a marriage and family therapist. Beginning Oct. 9, 2014, the group will meet on Thursday evenings from 6:00 until 7:15 p.m. at the offices of Resolve Community Counseling Center, 1830 Front St. in Scotch Plains.

As a counselor at Resolve, Debra Ferro has had success with teenagers who have significant issues impacting their happiness. Her background as a mental health clinician and certified teacher will enable her to guide the group in discussing their thoughts and concerns and in developing strategies for overcoming any issues that arise.

This community service is provided by Resolve Community Counseling Center, a non-profit mental health organization licensed by the State of New Jersey. The group will cost $15.00 per week. Visit www.resolvenj.com for more information or call 908-322-9180 x10 to register.

Why We Keep Kosher

Why We Keep Kosher

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.
