Track & Field: Union Catholic Excel on Opening Day with 9 Victories

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Union Catholic boys and girls track and field teams got off to a great start in its season opener on Friday night by picking up nine victories and several personal best performances at the St. Tim Lawrence Invitational at the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York.

In the girls competition for UC, Sydney Tucker won the 55 dash in 7.61, Jerika Lufrano captured the mile in 5:16.16, Asiah Cooper was first in the long jump at 16-11 ¾, Angelique Williams won the 55 hurdles in 8.91 and was second in the high jump (4-8), the 4x200 crossed the line first in 1:49.91, Felicia Quainoo took second in the 55 hurdles in 8.96, Sophia Martinez was second in the shot put with a 34-9 ¾, and Tyler Scott placed second in the triple jump with a 34-4.

On the boys side for the Vikings, Brandon Patterson finished first in the shot put with a 52-1 ¾, Elijah Brown won the 400 in 50.85, Makay Johnson placed first in the 55 dash in 6.68, the 4 x 200 ran 1:32.86 to finish first, and Silas Donaus placed second in the 55 hurdles in 8.31.
