Track and Field: Union Catholic Girls Shatter School Record in DMR at Easterns

New York, NY -- The Union Catholic girls smashed the school record in the distance medley relay and received several other great performances at Tuesday's 84th Eastern States Track and Field Championships at the New Balance Track and Field Center.

In the distance medley, UC's Zamira Ysaac ran 3:49.20 for 1,200, Mia Bennett-Jones ran 59.68 for 400, Leena Morant split 2:16.90 for 800, and Jerika Lufrano anchored with a 5:10.70 carry to bring the Vikings across the line fifth in 12:16.48. That shattered the school record of 12:24.00 set earlier this season and is No. 2 in the state this season and No. 13 in the nation.

The Vikings also placed third in the 4x800 relay in 9:25.71 as Alexandra Borik (personal best 2:20.82), Morgan Williams (2:19.83), Ashleigh Patterson (2:21.998) and Morgan Jackson (personal best 2:23.05) shared the baton. 

In other highlights, the 4x400 relay team of Williams (6132), Morant (57.18), Ysaac ((59.41) and Patterson (59.04) placed  second in 3:56.97. Asiah Cooper finished third in the long jump with a personal best 18-4 1/2, the third best jump in the state this season, and set a school senior class record of 35-8 with her 11th place finish in the triple jump. The 4x200 relay team of Sydney Tucker, Khamil Evans, Brianna Ewing and Felicia Quainoo combined to run a NJ #2 1:42.19 in the trials. Evans placed fourth in the 400 in an indoor personal best and NJ #8 57.52 .Brianna Ewing placed seventh in the 55 hurdles in a personal best 8.38. Mia Bennett-Jones ran a personal best 59.44 to place 15th in the 400. Tucker ran a PR of 7.35 in the trials of the 55 dash.
