Track and Field: Union Catholic's Boys and Girls Win 14 Events at Lawrenceville Invit.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ -- The Union Catholic boys and girls track and field teams racked up 14 victories and a bunch of personal best performances at Saturday's Lawrenceville Invitational at the Lavino Field House in Lawrenceville.

In the girls competition, UC's Khamil Evans continued her red hot junior season with a pair of sprint victories. Evans, who lives in Piscataway, led a 1-2-3 finish for UC by winning the 200 with a PR of 26.35, and she captured the 400 in 58.16, the 8th fastest time among N.J. quarter milers this season.

The five other UC girls winners were Leena Morant, Morgan Williams, Angelique Williams, Sydney Tucker, and Brianna Ewing.

Morant led five UC runners under 2:28 in the 800 with her winning time of 2:17.87. Morgan Williams won 1,600 with a PR of 5:24.62. Tucker led a 1-23 finish for UC in the 55 dash with a time of 7.53, and was also second in the 200 with a PR of 26.44. Angelique Williams won the triple jump at 35-10, and was also third in the 55 hurdles with a PR of 9.11, and third in the high jump at 5-0. Ewing sparked a 1-2-3 finish for UC in the HH with a winning time of 8.61, and was third in the 200 with a PR of 26.68.    

In other highlights, Felicia Quainoo was second in the 55 dash (7.63) and 55 hurdles (8.66). Mia Bennett-Jones placed second in the 400 with a PR of 1:00.01. Jerika Lufrano was second in the 800 in a PR of 2:19.79. Sophia Martinez placed second in the shot put with a 34-1 Ashleigh Patterson ran a PR of 2:22.24 to place third in the 800. Zamira Ysaac was third in the 400 in a PR of 1:00.97. Sara Abood was fourth in the 1,600 with a PR of 5:40.50.  

On the boys side, Brandon Patterson unloaded a personal best and NJ #4 58-10 to win the shot put. Patterson is getting very close to the school indoor record of 59-3 1/2 set in 2015 by Sean Brennan. 

Daryl Miller, Ryan McLaughlin, Krishna White, Elijah Abraham, and Silas Donaus all had huge days for the Vikings.

Miller won the 55-meter dash in a personal best 6.68, and ran a PR split of 51.4 on the runner-up 4x400. McLaughlin finished first in the 55 hurdles in 8.01 to lead a 1-2-3 finish for UC, and split 7.6 on the first-place shuttle hurdle team that ran a NJ #10 31.41, which qualified the team for the New Balance National Indoor Championships next month in New York. 

Abraham won the 400 in 53.96 and ran 8.2 on the shuttle hurdles. Obadare Animashaun (7.7) and Donaus (7.7) also ran on the shuttle hurdles team. Donaus also placed second in the 55 hurdles with a PR of 8.11 and second in the 400 with a PR of 54.8. Animashaun added a third in the 55 hurdles  in 8.61.

White won the triple jump with a 42-6 1/2, was second in the long jump with a PR of 20-4, and he cleared 6-0 to place second in the high jump.  

Justin Cadas also picked up a win for UC in the 800 in 2:02.55.

The Vikings will be back in action at the State Non-Public A Championships on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Bennett Center in Toms River. UC is heavily favored to successfully defend its girls state title, while the UC boys are expected to have a great battle with Christian Brothers Academy for the state title.
