SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for Union County and much of northeast New Jersey, as well as New York City and parts of Connecticut through this evening, according to Weather.gov.
Heavy rain showers and embedded thunderstorms from Tropical Storm Fay are forecast through this evening, and a total of 1 to 3 inches of rainfall is expected, with higher amounts possible locally. Torrential rainfall within a short period of time will be possible and this could lead to flooding of low-lying, urban, and poor drainage areas. Some smaller streams and rivers could overflow. Wind gusts are expected in the 35-40 mph range, with stronger gusts possible.
Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation, according to the weather service.
