Tuesday is Election Day and 'Your Vote Matters'

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ – In an open letter to the editor, Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr pointed out that everyone’s vote “mattered” and it was important for everyone to come out and vote on Tuesday.

In Scotch Plains, incumbent Councilman Lou Beckerman (D) is running against  Llewellyn Jones (R) for the one open council seat.

In Fanwood, current Councilwoman Kathy Mitchell (D) is running for re-election, along with Tom Kranz (D) and Jean Michele Moore (R), making it three candidates for two seats.

Scotch Plains and Fanwood also both have contested races for three positions on the SPF Board of Education (BOE).  There are five Scotch Plains residents vying for three seats: David Gorbunoff (incumbent), Evan Murray, Nancy Norris-Bauer (incumbent) Charlotte Ann Schirmer, and John T. Scanlon. In Fanwood, there are two candidates vying for one seat: Amy Winkler (incumbent) and Robert Stovall. All candidates had the opportunity to present their case at a SPF PTA Council sponsored forum.  (Link to Forum video).
