SCOTCH PLAINS, N.J. -- When walking past Mrs. Rebecca Schroppe's art studio, you may notice added beauty on the walls.

"Each year I gift each of my National Art Honor Society seniors a tile that displays a piece of their artwork," says Mrs. Schroppe. "They choose which artwork they want on it to be left behind as a legacy. The tiles have the student's name and graduation year printed on it."

Mrs. Schroppe is proud to say that this project is funded by the student artwork that is purchased through Artsonia, the Union Catholic student artwork gift shop.

"I started this initiative a few years ago using all of the funds I had accumulated over my first few years of using Artsonia. I was saving my dollars until the perfect concept came to mind."

Mrs. Schroppe explains that this wall honors NAHS members over the course of seven years.

"You'll notice I have tiles that go back to 2013. This was the year I started using Artsonia. I hand-picked artwork by previous NAHS members (classes of 2013, 2014, and 2015) and had some tiles made to honor these previous members. I map out the placement of each new tile so it's balanced. They don't appear in consecutive order by year but by design and aesthetic."

Congratulations to the Art Department and student artists for leaving an inspiring stamp on the UC walls.
