SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The first ever After School Retreat program at Union Catholic kicked off Thursday afternoon. The program, moderated by Mr. John Becht and Mrs. Patti Caffrey, is open to all juniors and seniors at UC.

Mr. Becht was very encouraged by the number of students (21) that attended, and he's excited about the new program.

“This is something new we are trying to give another opportunity to our students to grow in their faith,’’ said Mr. Becht. "The focus of the retreat was on prayer, the different types of prayer and how prayer can be beneficial for the individual and the individual’s relationship with God were discussed. I believe the students enjoyed the retreat and took a lot from it.’’

Mr. Becht said the retreat began with snacks inside, and then moved outside to the courtyard with a "trust" activity, and then concluded in the Chapel with a discussion on prayer.

The next After School Retreat (ASR) is scheduled for Thursday, October 19th from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The focus of the next retreat will be on the power of service and assisting others. is Scotch Plains-Fanwood’s only free daily paper.
