SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Twenty-three recent graduates of Union Catholic and 14 rising seniors at the school have earned AP Scholars Awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP Exams during this past school year.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement program recognizes several levels of achievement based on students’ performance on AP Exams. 

Andrew Palacio ’20 qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by receiving an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.

Eight students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are Jacquelyn Coyne ’20, Lauren Diawatan ’20, Ziji Guo ’20, Cara Leegan ’20, John McElroy ’20, Connor McParland ’20, Andrew Palacio ’20, and Mia Schutz ’20.

Twelve students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honors Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These students are Gabriel Abood ’20, Maddy Abood ’20, Isabela Allen ’21, Kacey Brennan   ’20, Yilin Chai ’21, Danielle Coyne ’21, Kaitlyn Dohn ’21, Xihan He ’20, Nicholas Jacus ’20, Sabrina Mayor ’21, Elisabeth Pickel ’21, and Maximilian Salameh ’21.

An additional 17 students earned AP Scholar Awards by completing three or more AP Exams with grades of three or higher. These students are Nadia Blouin ’21, Giavanna DiFrancesco ’21, Anna Gordon ’20, Jillian Jacinto ’20, Madelyn Kemler ’20, Clare McGuinness ’21, Karen Melendez ’21, Rebecca Penevolpe ’20, Olivia Rittenhouse ’20, Caitlin Roder ’20, Arminder Singh ’21, Olivia Szyszkiewicz ’20, Sean Thal ’20, Madison Truesdale ’20, Natalie Walker ’20, Quqi Zhang ’21, and Yang Zhao ’21.
