Union Catholic's Benvenuto, Peralta, Rotoly, Ohnmeiss, Barge and Velona Named All-Conference in Softball

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Six members of Union Catholic's softball team -- Justina Benvenuto, Gianna Peralta, Sarah Ohnmeiss, Lindsey Rotoly, Autumn Barge and Gabby Velona -- were named to the All-Union County Conference Softball Team for the Valley Division. Benvenuto and Peralta were also selected to the All-Area Team by the Courier News.

Benvenuto, Peralta, Rotoly, and Ohnmeiss were all named First-Team All-Conference. Barge and Velona were chosen as Honorable Mention.

Bevenuto had a sensational sophomore season on the mound and at the plate for the Vikings, which finished the season as co-champions of the Valley Division of the Union County Conference. She finished with a .343 average with three home runs, 22 runs batted in and 26 runs scored. On the mound, she compiled a 15-7 record with 134 strikeouts in 118.1 innings and threw one no-hitter.

Peralta was one of the top freshmen in the state this past season. The shortstop batted .385 with 27 runs scored and 17 RBI, and delivered one of the best moments of the season when she belted a walk-off homer in the eighth inning to give UC a 2-1 victory over DePaul in the Non-Public A State Quarterfinals. Peralta also did some pitching, registering 28 strikeouts in 19 innings and earning one victory.  

Rotoly, a senior catcher, hit .387 with 19 runs scored, two homers, and 11 runs batted in. Ohnmeiss, a sophomore outfielder, hit .316 with 18 runs scored, 13 RBI, and one home run.

Barge had a great freshman season for UC. She batted .417 with 16 runs scores and 10 RBI. Velona, a rising junior, hit .290 with 16 runs, six doubles, and 18 RBI.
