Union Catholic's Mendoza Honored for Decade of Service to the Church

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Union Catholic’s Janessa Mendoza was recognized this past Sunday by the Pastoral Musicians of the Diocese of Metuchen for her 10 years of dedicated service for the promotion of vibrant liturgical celebrations.

Mendoza, who lives in Edison, has been an altar server and a handbell and choir member since 2007 at St. Matthew the Apostle Church in Edison.

The honor meant a lot to Mendoza.

“It’s a big honor,’’ said Mendoza, the student council president at Union Catholic. “I don’t see it as a chore because I’m with my friends and having fun while doing something good for the community. It feels great to be recognized for how long I’ve been involved.’’

The National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) fosters the art of of musical liturgy, and its members of NPM serve the Catholic Church as musicians, clergy, liturgists, and other leaders of prayer.
