Union Catholic's Surles and Trower Sign National Letters of Intent

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Two members of Union Catholic's Class of 2018 gathered with their families, classmates, coaches and school administrators for a special ceremony in the main lobby on Thursday morning to sign their National Letters of Intent.

Goldera Surles signed to bowl at Molloy College in Rockville Centre, N., and Connor Trower signed to play baseball at Elmira College in Elmira, NY.

Surles, one of the state's top bowlers, helped lead the Vikings to a 10-4 record, its first ever North Jersey, Sec. 2 Group 2 title, a third-place finish at the Union County Championships, a seventh-place at the State Group 2 Championships, and a runner-up finish in the Union County Conference.

Surles, who lives in Union, placed third at the Union County Championships, and led the charge for the Vikings at the sectional championships by rolling games of 194, 200, and 236 for a series of 630, and she also qualified for the Tournament of the Champions.  

Trower, a right hand pitcher from Westfield, has had several strong outings this season, including a four-hitter with six strikeouts and one earned run in an opening day victory over Plainfield. Trower has 26 strikeouts in 20 innings this a 3.50 earned run average this season.
