CRANFORD – The Union County College Foundation is hosting a cocktail reception on July 13 in the Victor M. Richel Student Commons on the Cranford campus to support the Foundation’s "Close the Gap" Campaign.

The campaign was developed to support UCC’s strategic initiative to help shrink the ever growing achievement gap that exists for African American students and will also provide financial assistance to help African Americans complete their degree on time.

At the cocktail reception, attendees will have the opportunity to meet the honored guest Howard Cross, former New York Giants Super Bowl Champion and Principal in Cresa, New York. U.S. Senator Cory Booker is serving as the Honorary Chair of the event. Assemblymen Jerry Green and Jamel Holley are members of the Host Committee and are significant advocates for the Close the Gap Campaign.

The funding raised through this event will be used in various ways. A donation of $50 can fund one transfer fee to a four-year institution for a student. Additional funding ideas include financial support for an academic boot camp for one student, a semester of books and supplies, emergency funding, or one year of public transportation. A $5000 donation will fund one year of tuition and books and $10,000 would fund two years at Union for a student.

The opportunity exists for businesses to participate as Gold, Silver or Bronze Sponsors. A Gold Sponsorship, for $2,500, will receive six tickets to the VIP reception, signage at the event, sponsor name on event banners, and a photo with the honored guest during the reception. A Silver Sponsorship for $1,000, will receive four tickets to the VIP Reception, sponsor name on event banners, and a photo with the honored guest. The Bronze Sponsor, for $500, will receive two tickets to the VIP Reception and a photo with the honored guest.
