SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – On Thursday afternoon, the Union County Bureau of Hazardous Materials Emergency Services (HAZMAT) conducted a follow up investigation at 1815 Front Street after Wednesday’s flooding.
On Wednesday, Front Street experienced severe flooding, as water overflowed into yards and filled basements.
“It was a precautionary measure, because oil and water don’t mix,” the homeowner said after suspecting a heating oil leak. "My basement was full from the runoff and now it's just mud."
All water was removed from the basement and HAZMAT officials confirmed the area is safe.
HAZMAT maintains capabilities of a Type I Hazardous Materials Team as designated by the US Department of Homeland Security. The Union County Bureau can be contacted at (908) 654-9881
