UPDATE: Motorists Advised to Stay Off the Roads in Scotch Plains-Fanwood

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Due to severe weather conditions, which has caused numerous downed wires and trees in the area, residents are advised to stay off the roadways, according to Scotch Plains police.

Route 22 West remains snarled for as far as the eye can see. 

According to the National Weather Service (Weather.gov), the remainder of Friday will be windy with gusts as high as 55 mph. The mix of rain and snow will continue. Low temperatures this evening will be around 34 degrees with wind chill values between 20 and 25. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent, but snow accumulation is expected to be less than a half inch.

Saturday is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 46 with wind gusts as high as 39 mph.
