SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- The Scotch Plains Municipal Building will open at noon today following early closure yesterday due to a sewer main break, which resulted in water issues at the building.
DPW personnel and a plumbing crew worked into the evening yesterday to fix the line, and professional cleaning crews were called in to sanitize the building.
"There's no health concern. We will be open for business today," said Township Manager Al Mirabella this morning in an interview with TAPintoSPF.
According to local plumber Glenn Natale, something blocked the line that runs out of the building and into the main sewer that is approximately 12 feet below the ground surface. The blockage resulted in back-ups when toilets were used on the main floor and the second floor of the building.
Scotch Plains DPW was on the scene to help dig down to the main sewer line and its connection to the Municipal Building's piping in order to fix the problem.
