SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Police are still searching for the suspects who carjacked a vehicle in the parking lot of the Scotchwood Diner (1928 Route 22) in Scotch Plains around 12:30 a.m. today, according to a statement issued by the Scotch Plains police department..

Patrol units responded to a report of a carjacking at the diner and upon arrival met the victim, a 43-year-old male who described being approached in the parking lot by two white males who assaulted him. According to the police report, a third male entered the vehicle, a 2001 Toyota Camry, which the victim had been warming up in the lot.

The suspects who assaulted the victim reportedly ran to a tan colored vehicle that was parked on the property next door and fled the scene. Both vehicles headed onto Rt 22 East. A "Be on the Lookout" alert was issued to surrounding towns, and the victim's car was located on a short time later on Lawrence Avenue in Westfield. The Union County K-9 unit was brought in to try to track the suspect who apparently  fled on foot, but results were negative.
