SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Opening night at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School's production of Mamma Mia, a musical featuring the songs of ABBA, brought the audience to its feet on Friday night.

Kaitlyn Lamendola stole the show as Donna -- the mother of the bride, who never revealed the identity of her daughter's father -- with her solo of the classic The Winner Takes It All. Other standouts included Rachella Carlino as Sophie, Olivia Robertiello as Ali, Lauren Barth as Lisa, Danielle Vuono as Tanya, Justyanna Fortna as Rosie, Matt Mahmet as Sam, Alex Halpin as Bill and Peter Canevari as Harry.

The story takes place on a small Greek island where Sophie dreams of a perfect wedding and walking down the aisle with her father by her side. But how can that happen if the bride-to-be doesn’t even know who her father is? Upon sneaking a peek in her mother’s diary from the 1970s, Sophie discovers three paternal possibilities: Sam, Bill, and Harry. Sophie is so convinced she’ll know who her true father is when she sees him that she secretly invites all three to the wedding. Yet when the trio arrives, the only thing clear is that identifying her dad is going to be far more of a challenge than she could have imagined!
