“We want to make sure that students, free from the structure of a classroom, don’t fall behind,” said Gail Switsky, executive director at Above Grade Level of Union County. “In fact, with our one-on-one tutoring, we believe we can help them get ahead of where they would have been with teaching in a classroom group setting.”

To accommodate the new reality caused by the virus, Above Grade Level will offer virtual tutoring, through Skype, Zoom, OnBoard and other online methods. Tutors are available to work with students in grades K-12 (as well as those at the college level) on all subjects, including math, English, science, foreign language and SAT/ACT prep.

Above Grade Level tutors will work with students on their current classwork, and also have supplemental material to teach any concepts that are not understood or need more practice. The company uses a proprietary curriculum that follows the common core standards being taught in all New Jersey schools. So, each child is actually being taught the curriculum that they may have missed or are not understanding without actual classroom instruction.

For students who have been struggling in school, tutors will teach any missing foundational skills as well. We offer a free skills assessment and will develop a customized plan for each student, based on the results and their specific needs. It is a great time for students to catch up and ensure a strong finish to the school year.

It is important that students continue learning and don’t fall behind during this unchartered time of at-home learning,” said Switsky. “Many parents are frustrated trying to teach their children, while also working or managing things at home. We can help and take some of the stress off parents during this already stressful time.”
