SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Scotch Plains advances to the next round of the State volleyball tournament by beating Newark East Side 25-18, 25-10.

A balanced attacked paved the way to the win:

  • Colin Donahue: 4 kills, 2 blocks, 1 ace.
  • Ryan Metzger: 4 kills 1 block, 4 aces.
  • Jimmy Walsh: 15 assists.
  • Braedon Cooke: 2 kills, 2 aces, 4 digs.
  • Peter Sailsman: 2 kills, 1 block.
  • Tony Ngumah: 2 kills 1 block.
  • Marcello Cappuccio: 7 digs.

"I think we continued our balanced attack and defense against Newark East Side, but there are still some areas we can tweak," said varsity coach Brock Hor.

"Ridge is next, and if last meet up is any indicator, it’s going to be a tough match. We need to continue to play at a high level and stay healthy," Coach Hor added. "The biggest thing is to have fun and play with passion. I told them, 'Respect Everyone, Fear No One'."

The Raiders travel to Basking Ridge in the next round of the State tournament on Thursday, May 23, at 3:00 p.m.
