SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -- Union Catholic, which climbed to No. 6 in the state rankings earlier in the day, showed no signs of slowing went it went on the road to take on crosstown and divisional rival Scotch Plains-Fanwood on Friday.
The Vikings rolled to a 25-18 and 25-17 victory over the Raiders to improve to 7-1.  

UC took the lead early in the opening set and won it handily. In the second set, the Raiders pushed back and tied the score at 9-9. But UC went on a 16-8 run to grab the second set to seal the deal.

It was another big day for the Union County Conference Player of the Week, Olivia Szyszkiewicz. The junior recorded 10 service points, three aces, and eight digs. Junior Alexandra Kwasnik had five kills, and senior Charlize Colon had four kills. Senior Chloe John and sophomore Katelyn Salvador chalked up six assists each . With three aces, six service points, one kill, and seven digs, junior Najlaa Williams once again did it all for the Vikings.

UC will be back home on Tuesday when they take on Union County rival Westfield, ranked No. 11 in the state, in what will likely be a a preview of the Union County Tournament championship game.
